Facebook Questions – Utilize the New Tool

April 27, 2011

If you’re on Facebook because everyone else is on Facebook, that’s not a good enough reason. It’s essential that you know who you are trying to reach and why you want to connect with them so you can invest time and energy in strategies that match those goals.

One way to connect with your Facebook community and learn what’s important to them is through Facebook Questions. Rolled out in March, it allows you to craft questions – either open-ended or poll-style – and post them to your wall. When a Facebook friend answers your question, their answer is posted on their wall and on the newsfeed that’s shared with their friends. Those friends can join in and answer the question, too. You can see how quickly a question can gain traction and go viral.

So how can a real estate professional use Facebook Questions as a business tool?

Here are some sample questions you can use to understand the needs of your clients and fine-tune your marketing to them:

  • What’s the most important feature for you in a house? (Helps you to target those amenities in your listings)
  • What is the worst part of moving? (Tells you what extra services appeal to buyers and sellers so you can set yourself apart with those special conveniences.)
  • If you could move anywhere, where would you want to live? (Conversation starter that builds community and alerts you to friends who may have specific desires like lake property or downsizing to a condo etc.)

If you do use Facebook Questions, post your question on either Thursday or Friday. Although social media is a constantly evolving media, recent research by Buddy Media seems to indicate that users engage with social media more often at the end of the week.
